Wood waste management:
from chips to briquettes
Compaction of wood chips into briquettes: from chips to fuel
If you work with wood in joinery, carpentry, the furniture industry, sawmills, or MDF processing, managing chips and sawdust is one of the main hidden costs of production.
With a COMAFER Dinamic Series briquetting machine, you transform that waste into compact wood briquettes: high-efficiency fuel, reusable raw material, or a marketable product. All with an investment that can be amortized in a short time.
Joineries and carpenter’s shops
Manage large quantities of chips, sawdust, and offcuts every day. The briquetting machine compacts them into briquettes ready for internal heating or sale.
Furniture and panel industry
Wood waste, chipboard, and veneer: our Dinamic 600 EVO grinder transforms them into a ground product ready to be briquetted along with the chips.
Wood industry
High volumes of chips and sawdust: the high-capacity Dinamic PRO M5 machine handles production up to 270 kg/h.
Pellet and biomass producers
Integrate briquetting into your production line to add value to waste chips from the process and expand your product catalog.
Which wood chip waste can be briquetted?
The COMAFER Dinamic Series can treat all main wood species, provided they have a moisture content between 8% and 17%:
Hardwoods
Oak, beech, walnut, cherry, chestnut, acacia, rosewood, mahogany, teak, ebony, iroko
Softwoods
Fir, pine, larch, Douglas fir, birch, willow, poplar, lime, ash, elm
Panels and derivatives
MDF, chipboard, OSB panel, plywood, cork
Other lignocellulosic materials
Bark, prunings, vine, fresh chips from lathes and milling machines
Warning: MDF and panels treated with glues and resins require a check on the quality of combustion gases before use as fuel. Contact us for specific advice.
The concrete advantages of briquetting wood chips
Compacting wood chips into briquettes offers concrete and measurable advantages:
-90% Volume
Light and voluminous residues like husk and chaff reduce in volume by up to 90% after briquetting: fewer containers, fewer trips, lower logistics costs.
+80% Combustion yield
Biomass briquettes have a higher energy density than loose material. Exhausted pomace, shells, and oily residues reach very high calorific values.
-70% Recycling costs
Briquettes cost less to dispose of and can be sold as renewable fuel to biomass markets.
Sustainability
The energy recovery of agro-industrial residues reduces emissions compared to disposal and contributes to the agri-food circular economy.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions about briquetting
What moisture content should the wood chips have for briquetting?
The optimal range is 8-17%. Chips that are too wet (>17%) or too dry (<8%) produce lower quality briquettes or do not compact correctly. In case of doubt, our R&D department can perform a free test with your material.
Can I briquette MDF and chipboard panels?
Yes, MDF and wood derivatives are compatible with the Dinamic Series. It is necessary to check the quality of combustion gases beforehand if you intend to use the briquettes as fuel, as MDF and chipboard contain resins and glues that can affect emissions. For use as fuel, it is preferable to opt for untreated solid woods.
Can the briquetting machine be connected to my extraction system?
Yes. COMAFER Dinamic Series briquetting machines can be connected to silos and filter units in both indoor and outdoor environments. This configuration allows for the automatic collection of chips from the extraction system and continuous briquetting without manual intervention.
How long does the compaction cycle take?
The cycle varies depending on the model and the material. The approximate hourly production ranges from 30 kg/h (Dinamic 70S, small joineries) up to 270 kg/h (Dinamic PRO M5, large industries).
Can I sell the wood briquettes?
High-quality wood briquettes are marketable as biogenic fuel. The biomass heating market is growing, and compact briquettes have a higher value than traditional wood due to their high calorific value (4,000-4,500 kcal/kg). However, the presence of glue or chemical treatments in the wood limits fuel use: always check the origin of the material.
What maintenance does the machine require?
Routine maintenance is minimal: periodic replacement of hydraulic oil, checking cylinder seals, and inspecting the wear of the sleeve and clamp. COMAFER offers scheduled maintenance contracts and guarantees the availability of spare parts even for discontinued machines. The spare parts warehouse in Brescia ensures fast deliveries.
